Christina Hoff Sommers

Christina Hoff Sommers...Feminist scholar and social critic

Christina Hoff Sommers is a Resident Scholar at the American Enterprise Institute in Washington, D.C.  She has been a Professor of Philosophy at Clark University since 1981. She specializes in ethics and contemporary moral theory and has published many scholarly articles in such journals as the Journal of Philosophy, Social Philosophy and Policy and the New England Journal of Medicine.  Sommers is editor of Vice and Virtue in Everyday Life -- one of the most widely used ethics textbooks in the country. She became known to the wider public as the author of Who Stole Feminism? How Women Have Betrayed Women.  Her book, The War Against Boys, received widespread attention and praise and was excerpted for a cover story in the Atlantic Monthly. It was included in the New York Times "Notable Books of the Year."

Her articles have also appeared in the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Washington Post, Boston Globe, USA Today, the National Review, the New Republic, and the Weekly Standard.

Ms. Sommers has appeared on Nightline, ABC Evening News, Crossfire, 20/20, Politically Incorrect, Sixty-Minutes, the Oprah Winfrey Show and the Dennis Miller Show to discuss topics such as moral education, the strengths and weaknesses of the women's movement, and the plight of boys in the nation's schools. Profiles of her have appeared in the Boston Globe, the Washington Post, the San Francisco Chronicle, and the London Times.

She is a frequent lecturer on college campuses and at prep schools. Recent visits include Dartmouth, Texas A&M, Kenyon College, Washington and Lee, University of Minnesota Law School, University of Virginia, Lehigh and Northern Iowa University.

Christina Sommers' latest book, One Nation Under Therapy: Why Self-Absorption is Eroding Self-Reliance, co-authored with Dr. Sally Satel, was published in April, 2005 by St. Martin's Press.
