Stephen Bogart and Cass Warner present
“An Inside Look At The Titans of Hollywood”

About The Program

This is a multimedia program featuring lecture, film and still pictures. The format is adaptable but in addition to formal remarks by both, key components are Stephen’s 14-minute home movie featuring Humphrey Bogart, Lauren Bacall and many other stars of the day plus the John Huston eulogy at his father’s funeral.

Cass will show excerpts from her award-winning 2008 documentary, THE BROTHERS WARNER, plus still pictures of her grandfather and his three brothers taken during the course of their career when they were the most powerful men in Hollywood.

Except for the documentary footage, all of the material has never been released to the public and is not available anywhere else. It is a treasure trove of memories.

In addition, both Stephen and Cass will do an unlimited Question and Answer session at the conclusion of their program.

About the Participants
Stephen Humphrey Bogart

...author, former television executive, and keeper of the Bogart legacy

Stephen Bogart is the son of acting icons Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall and has had a very interesting and accomplished life.

Steve graduated from the University of Hartford with a B.A. in Mass Communications and a minor in Psychology. He then began a career in television, writing and producing news at the network level for more than 30 years. He has been a producer at several start-ups, including ESPN, The Satellite News Channel and Court TV.

Stephen Bogart was executive producer and coordinating producer of the critically acclaimed documentary for A&E Network, “New York at the Movies” (narrated by Meryl Streep).

Steve created the award-winning short for Showtime, “Personal Assistant” (starring Kathie Lee Gifford).

In addition, he was a writer and producer for NBC Nightly News; The TODAY Show; The CBS Early Show; WPIX-TV (NYC) News at Ten; and MSNBC’s Countdown with Keith Olberman”. He also was Executive Producer at WFLA-TV in Tampa, Florida and he guided that station to the number 1 spot in the market.

In between his professional commitments, Steve found the time to write three books. The first two were novels: Play it Again (Tom Doherty Associates, 1995) and The Remake: As Time Goes By (Reed Business Information, Inc., 1996). The third was a non-fiction bestseller, Bogart: In Search of My Father, (Dutton, 1995).

Play it Again   The Remake   In Search of My Father

An impressive compliment to all of these accomplishments is that Steve found the time to raise three children and presently works as a real estate agent in Naples, Florida.

Stephen has made public appearances and speeches at various venues throughout the world, (Italy, France, England, Germany, Netherlands, Spain, Australia), for various groups and at film festivals across the USA for those who remember the halcyon days of his parents. He has done programs at the Smithsonian Institute, Lincoln Center and prestigious theaters in Chicago, Los Angeles and other cities.

He also has appeared as a guest on dozens of talk shows including “Good Morning, America”, “The TODAY Show”, “The Early Show” and (going way back) “Tomorrow with Tom Snyder.”

Stephen Bogart is the co-managing partner of Bogart LLC, a California corporation tasked with supervising the marketing of and public relations for his father’s name and likeness (www.humphreybogart.com).

Cass Warner

...documentary filmmaker, author, and keeper of the Warner Bros. legacy

Cass Warner Sperling has the honor of being a third-generation filmmaker and is President of Warner Sisters, an independent film and television production company.. Her grandfather, Harry Warner, was the original President and one of the founders of Warner Bros. studio. Her father was writer/producer, Milton Sperling, who was nominated twice for an Academy Award.

She began her career sitting in on story meetings with her father and wandering the lot observing the magic of movie making.

After studying acting with the acclaimed Milton Katselas, and learning screen writing under the mentorship of her father and Howard Koch (the writer of CASABLANCA), she formed her production company, Warner Sisters, which carries on the original Warner Bros. motto--making films that "educate, entertain and enlighten." www.warnersisters.com

In 1993, after years of research, Cass’ personal story of her family saga was published in a book entitled Hollywood Be Thy Name (Prima Lifetstyles). She updated it in 2008 as The Brothers Warner (Warner Sisters), which became a non-fiction bestseller.

Hollywood By Thy Name   The Brothers Warner

In between, Cass worked on the Warner Home Video five-part series, “You Must Remember This: The Warner Brothers Story” which was narrated by Clint Eastwood.

In 2008, along with the revised book, Cass completed a feature documentary, THE BROTHERS WARNER, a project that she directed, wrote, produced and narrated. The film is an intimate portrait of the family and a tribute to their legacy. The PBS American Masters series aired an edited 60-minute version for two years. The film has won numerous awards, including the prestigious HBO Films Producer Award for Cass, and she was on the Emmy Directors’ nomination list in 2009. Her interviews in the film included Dennis Hopper, George Segal, Angie Dickinson, Debbie Reynolds, Tab Hunter, Efrem Zimbalist, Jr., Haskell Wexler, Frank Pierson (Oscar winning screenwriter), Norman Lear, Roy Disney Jr., Sam Goldwyn, Jr., Sherry Lansing (former CEO & Chairman, Paramount Pictures), Mike Medavoy (former President, Orion Pictures and Tri-Star Pictures and current CEO of Phoenix Pictures) and Morgan Spurlock. www.thebrotherswarner.com

The Brothers Warner

A favorite ongoing project is "Conversations With Cass", a series of thoughtful, one-on-one conversations with some of today's most recognized actors and other notable personalities. These video segments are forming an inspirational library for her non-profit, "The Dream Factory." Some of those featured are Matthew McConaughey, Giovanni Ribisi, Cole Hauser, Michelle Stafford (Emmy Award-winning actress) and the voice of Bart Simpson, Nancy Cartwright. Excerpts from the series have been aired on the Starz cable channel. www.conversationswithcass.com

Warner Sisters is proud to have on its slate most of Howard Koch’s (CASABLANCA) unproduced screenplays, plays, short stories and novels to develop into a library. Feature film projects in development are A SHADE OF GREY (Cass’ “TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD” project); DOG STORIES (a DINER-type coming-of-age story); and several others.

As a presenter, Cass Warner enjoys revisiting history and earns high marks from her audiences. A typical recent comment from the Director of Marketing and Member Services for the Investment Industry Association of Canada stated, “we received very positive feedback about the evening, your film, your comments and the words of wisdom from your grandfather.”

Cass has also done the requisite media appearances over the years including “Good Morning, America” as well as “The Joan Rivers Show.”

On a personal note, Cass is the proud mother of four. One of her sons is talented actor, Cole Hauser, who has been in over 30 films and several TV series.

Steve,

Your presentation yesterday in Southgate, Michigan was most entertaining and informative. The Woodhaven Senior Club was so pleased to have attended! The glimpse you shared into your life and that of your special parents was fascinating. The delivery of your story, so entertaining and personal.

Personally, I was impressed that you were so approachable and that you remembered my name as we passed each other later! That must be hard to do with all the people you meet.

I hope you will continue to share your story with others. I’m certain they will find it as interesting as we did.

All the best,
Ed Raymond, Downriver Town Hall (MI) event

Since you are anxious to hear about our program and my other email address is giving me fits, I thought I'd use this one. You won't have to wait for the evaluation form in the mail.

Cass and Steve were great. Both are very personable and were well-received by the audience. Cass is more structured and Steve is more laid back but each method works for their own presentation. All the technical parts went without a hitch. I think they were both happy with everything and had a nice time. The limo service ran out of sedans to return Steve to the airport so he was traveling in a white stretch limo. What a hoot.

Members of the Youngstown Historical Society attended so we treated them royally. The contact person took Cass' books and DVDs with him along with Cass and Rochelle so they could see a bit of Youngstown before the program on Thursday. That part also worked out well.

Thank you for a great suggestion for a program. They also seem to enjoy seeing each other and doing this program together.

Steve,

Many thanks for your fabulous presentation this past Saturday. The Pierre was packed, and every face was fixated on the movie. You did a great job infusing the film with charm and personal stories. Many clients commented on how much they enjoyed it.

It was a real pleasure to work with you on this. Hopefully we will be able to do some more of these presentations in the future.

All the best,
Regina Pitaro, Managing Director, Gamco Asset Management Inc. (NY, NY)

Subject: African Queen

...you missed quite a party last night with the African Queen. We had more than 200 people show up…and it was almost like a trip to Lourdes – the halt, the lame, the blind and merely myopic showed up to relive memories of Bogie, see the Queen and meet Steve.

And they weren’t the only ones, of course. We had everyone from kids to oldsters show up.

I didn’t get to spend much time with Steve (doing my chamber social-butterfly thing) but I was so impressed with his affability and wry sense of humor. He was very approachable. Not at all like some others, whose name I shall not mention;-)

He displayed such patience, posing with people, signing the backs of T-shirts, etc. I know everyone had a great time.

Please pass along to him our heartfelt thanks for making this event a huge success. Suzanne and Lance have worked so hard getting the Queen back in fighting form; I know they were pleased as well.
